Perfecting Civil Appeals in the Appellate Division,
First and Second Departments

Couse Description:

The New York State Appellate Division, First and Second Departments are a litany of rules and regulations – some official, some less so – with which attorneys must comply when perfecting their appeals. In our CLE, we explain the process and elaborate on the intricacies of that which is required when filing in each of these Courts. We focus on the preparation and timely filing of the Notice of Appeal and accompanying documents, and continue by detailing the necessary documents to be included in the Record/Appendix and requirements for appellate briefs. Topics such as enlargements of time, briefing schedules for appeals containing numerous parties and filing Motions for Leave to Appeal are also discussed in depth. We conclude by briefly discussing oral argument and providing an overview on perfecting an appeal in the New York State Court of Appeals, New York State’s highest court.
