John Farrell

"The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers."
— Ralph Nader

As a veteran in the legal industry, John has been an integral part of the appellate landscape since 1989. Throughout his 35 years he has been at the forefront of transforming the industry from paper to electronic filing. Along the way, as many age-old competitors made business decisions to exit the industry when new technologies threatened their existence, John embraced this new direction and carved out an aggressive growth path for PHP.

John has been instrumental in negotiating deals with five competitors, namely Echo Appellate, St. Louis West, Appeal Press, Virgil Mountain and Fremont Payne, to strengthen PHP’s foothold in the industry and accelerate company growth. The fact that John has maintained excellent working relationships and close friendships with each former business owner is a testament to his character and ability to form business alliances thus allowing PHP to maintain its role as an industry leader.

Further testament of John’s strong leadership and unifying character is the longevity of his core team, many of whom have been with him through most of his tenure in the appellate industry. The trust and loyalty he inspires have been key contributors to PHP’s continued success and advancements. John’s mantra is to always be honest with the entire team and that has allowed the overall company to easily see and buy into his vision and path to continued growth.

John is very much committed to continuing the expansion of PHP’s reach in the legal market through further acquisitions inside and outside of the appellate industry. He recently took on a leadership role in PHP’s ediscovery affiliate vdiscovery, and is excited by the myriad of possibilities to merge appellate and ediscovery work.

John earned his B.S. in Business Management from the New York Institute of Technology-Old Westbury. He continues to strengthen his leadership and management skills by attending numerous leadership conferences and business summits. John is passionate about developing strong company leaders and frequently sends members of his management team to leadership conferences around the country.

A lifelong Long Islander, John recently celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary and has been blessed with two children and seven grandchildren. He maintains an adroit balance between family and work. He plans to continue doing so for years to come, approaching each endeavor with his typical drive, exceptional vision and always present sense of humor.
